The Minneapolis Institute of Art is a sanctuary. It’s an incredible venue that allows you to transport to another time, offering the exposure to different culture, fashion, people and lifestyle of what feels like a different world. It’s a momentary escape, a free way to travel within the walls of one of the most beautiful spaces. It can be a place of solace, inspiration and motivation.

Generally, my Sunday’s involve some pre museum bubbly, then wandering one of the many Minneapolis art museums. MIA becomes a reoccurring destination. I love that they offer the reliability of the personal collections and the intrigue of the ever changing pieces on loan for temporary exhibits.

Everything from the architecture, to the art that inhabits it, has an iconic sense of style. The museum owns the entire experience. Upon arrival, you are greeted with a grand staircase, flanked with lion statues on either side. The entrance alone is stunning. Once inside, you’re surrounded with the most striking marble interiors. Most railings and accents are detailed in black and gold. I’ve always loved how these stand out from the dramatic contrast against the white finishes. The next staircase, located just off the rotunda, brings you to my favorite place. Upon ascending, the top of the staircase offers DalÍ originals, the most luxurious Hôtel de la Bouëxière period room and rare Giovanni Piranesi furniture designs.

The No. 612.1 weekender was designed around the timelessness of the museum. The detailing of the space that I gravitate towards instigated the use of black and gold accents. The weekender has black leather exterior, lined with black suede interior and finished with gold hardware. Each piece is handcrafted, from manually puncturing holes to hand stitching the panels. This piece was designed to be as classic and iconic as the space that motivated it.

The Montgomery Collection weekenders are created for both quick weekend getaway trips and long term travel. They are designed to accommodate most carry on luggage size requirements in flight, making travel easier by avoiding waits and fees to check bags. I went on roughly a two week European trip, fitting everything I needed in carry on luggage from the Montgomery Collection. I packed all the essentials in the No. 612.1 weekender, the No. 612.3 tote and the No. 612.7 passport wallet without having to check any of it. It was such a relief having the flexibility to grab my luggage directly after landing and head out when traveling between destinations. It gave me more time to explore and minimized the time spent with the unneeded stress of lost luggage or slow lines to retrieve it. Pairing the weekender with the tote allowed the perfect amount of storage space for everything packed and a little extra room for some much needed shopping.
